Trinkets

from In Circles by Old Semeil

about

Versions of this song have been around for all of OS's life. This is the version I've been playing live for the last couple years near enough, give or take. Guitar, vocals and harmonica recorded live. As is often the case this is take 1, the keeper, the energy is present that in subsequent takes (we did 6 or so) is not. This is the truth of the song. Sophie recorded her parts later and lifts us up.

lyrics

Well you keep me on my feet
time after time through the doubts in belief
with my home sick tremors
my side ways looks
the empty house echoes
from my cowboy boots
and all the trinkets on the shelf

If we leave can we chose who we save?
If I lose will I lose you to?
Don't let the last light of today
paint your city as a grave
even your towns sticks and stones
can only break your bones
if it's souvenirs you want
not a home sweet home
not a hone sweet home

O I'm nothing more
than a blade of grass
or a slamming door

Get your head up above the chimney pots
wont you try for some clarity
all your evenings illusions
all your street light lies they
always catch my eye

Turn your sadness into singing
pull the rain into the dry earth
you make a little home here
and keep drawing your breath

O in all this mess
you keep drawing your breath
turn your sadness into singing
pull the rain into the dry earth
you make a little home here
and keep drawing your breath
